So when will the Lions get their first victory in 2009...?

by Stanley

The Detroit Lions have not won a game since they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16 of the 2007 NFL Season. They have lost their last 17 and 22 out of their last 23 games. So when will the Lions win again (if they win ever again)? Lock it up: The Lions will win one of their first three games, which are against the Saints, Vikings, and Redskins.

Now these aren't easy games at all. The Saints routed the Lions in '08, the Redskins came out with a fairly close but dominating victory against Detroit, and the Vikings snuck out two wins. However, Daunte Culpepper did not play against New Orleans in 2008. Culpepper has been extremely good against the Saints, throwing for 5 touchdowns in 2005 at the Superdome while he was still with the Vikings.

Don't expect the Lions to beat the Saints on Opening Day, however. But Week Two, the Lions will beat the Vikings. I'm calling it right now. Last year, they could have easily beaten Minnesota twice but made dumb errors to lose both games. This year, they will attack Sage Rosenfels (the Vikings "answer" at quarterback), and will come out on top. Detroit will be rejoicing as they finally get a victory. Calvin Johnson will come up big in Jim Schwartz's first game at Ford Field.

The next week, the Lions face the Redskins in Detroit. This one will be close, but the Redskins will probably pull away in the end due to solid quarterback play by Jason Campbell.

Lions fans, the wait is almost over. Victory will be sweet.

More schedule analysis to come.
