Notes
The NL East could easily turn into the most competitive division in baseball with everyone but the Nationals with a legitimate chance at winning the division. By the way, its been six years for the Marlins, time for the annual championship? '97, '03,.. '09? The NL is also loaded with sleeper teams headlined by the Marlins who made some noise last year but failed to keep up the Phillies down the stretch. The Reds also have potential to make a wild card run due to their young talent, but inexperience may keep them from reaching the postseason. The Giants and Diamondbacks also have serious potential to grab a wild card spot. The Giants are headlined by Tim Lincecum and a solid lineup will turn some heads, but their lack of power will keep them from grabbing the wild card. Meanwhile, the D-Backs have a seriously talented lineup and rotation that may be just one or two years away from championship caliber. Look for the Giants and D-Backs to be well in the wild card race down the stretch
The AL East will obviously grab most of the attention from the league as they are headlined by 3 serious title contenders. The AL Central should be competitive until the final days of the season with the Twins and Tigers both with deep lineups. Also, the Royals have sleeper potential, reminiscent of the 2008 Rays. Finally, the AL West should be all Angels, but watch out for the Rangers whose incredible lineup could set some records; however, when Kevin Milwood is your ace, no way you're going to the playoffs.
Playoff Predictions
National League Playoffs:
Phillies over Mets (Intense 5-Game Series)
Dodgers over Cubs (Cubs pitching staff could be their Achillies Heel, but if they stay healthy, Cubs win the World Series)
Phillies over Dodgers (Phillies overall depth outlasts Dodgers)
American League Playoffs:
Yankees over Angels (Could very possibly go either way, but if Yanks can pull together as a team, they'll be dangerous)
Red Sox over Twins (4-0 sweep, Red Sox rotation overwhelms Twins)
Red Sox over Yankees (Epic Series with Red Sox winning in 6 games in the House that Jeter Built)
World Series:
Red Sox over Phillies (Great series of two die-hard sports cities dueling it out. In the end, the Sox's rotation will outlast the Phillie's)
