NHL Playoff First Round Picks

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will be advancing the next round, according to Stanley.

By Stanley

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens : Bruins talent just too great for the disappointing Canadiens in this great rivalry (Bruins in 5)

Washington Capitals vs. New York Rangers: Washington's speed and dynamic offense eventually takes over this series, even with bad goaltending from Jose Theodore (Capitals in 6)

New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes: The Devils haven't been great lately, and Carolina has been surging. However, the Devils' strong goaltending gets them past the 'Canes (Devils in 7)

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers: This should be a very competitive series with two really good teams. The difference will be that the Penguins have been hot as of late, whereas the Flyers have been only okay. The Penguins have too much talent to lose this one (Penguins in 6)

WESTERN CONFERENCE

San Jose Sharks vs. Anaheim Ducks: The Sharks have disappointed in the playoffs in recent years, but they are phenomenal this year. (Sharks in 5)

Detroit Red Wings vs. Columbus Blue Jackets: The Jackets are new to the playoffs, while the Wings have won four of the past nine Stanley Cups. This one will give the Michigan fans tired of losing to the Columbus-based Buckeyes a bit of a victory. (Red Wings in 6)

Vancouver Canucks vs. St. Louis Blues: Two pretty much irrelevant teams face off here, even though Vancouver has been great as of late. St. Louis makes its valiant return to the postseason, but it won't last long. (Canucks in 6)

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Calgary Flames: Two very interesting teams right here, with the experienced Flames versus the young Blackhawks. In this one, Patrick Kane and company barely get the best of the Jarome Iginla-led Flames. (Blackhawks in 7)
